When it comes to choosing a wedding venue, the setting can make all the difference. At An Enchanted Evening, we’re fortunate to provide wedding entertainment at some incredible venues throughout Chicagoland, and The Armour House at Lake Forest Academy is one we always enjoy.

Located at 1500 W. Kennedy Road in Lake Forest, Illinois, The Armour House combines historic architecture, beautiful gardens, elegant indoor spaces, and plenty of character — creating a memorable backdrop for everything from the ceremony and cocktail hour to dinner and, of course, dancing!

A Historic Lake Forest Wedding Venue

The Armour House isn’t a venue designed to look historic — it actually is.

The mansion, known today as Reid Hall, was completed in 1908 and was once the home of J. Ogden Armour and his family. Throughout the property, you’ll find beautiful architectural details, including marble, ornate woodwork, fireplaces, and an impressive staircase that immediately gives the mansion a sense of grandeur.

That history gives weddings at The Armour House a character that’s difficult to recreate in a newer venue. It feels elegant and sophisticated without feeling like a traditional ballroom.

Outside, the historic setting continues with beautifully landscaped grounds, formal gardens, a fountain and picturesque areas that provide wonderful opportunities for ceremonies and wedding photography.

Beautiful Spaces Throughout the Mansion

One of the things we love about The Armour House is that your wedding isn’t limited to a single room.

The Great Hall is one of the mansion’s signature spaces, featuring a grand staircase and large marble mantel. It’s an impressive setting for ceremonies, dinner and those big wedding-day entrances.

The Garden Room offers a completely different atmosphere, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the gardens and plenty of room for guests to celebrate. It’s also a great space for one of our favorite parts of the evening — the dance floor!

Couples can also make use of spaces such as the Library, Little Theater and Marble Room, allowing different portions of the celebration to have their own atmosphere.

Indoor and Outdoor Wedding Options

For couples dreaming of an outdoor ceremony, The Armour House’s grounds provide a beautiful setting. Ceremonies can be held outdoors, while indoor options are available as well.

That’s an especially nice advantage for Chicago-area weddings, where we all know the weather doesn’t always cooperate with our plans!

Having beautiful options both inside and outside gives couples flexibility while keeping the entire celebration in one location.

Your Wedding Is the Main Event

Another feature that makes The Armour House stand out is that the venue hosts only one event at a time.

For a wedding day, that can make a noticeable difference. Rather than sharing the property with multiple receptions, the focus is on your celebration and your guests.

The Armour House also has its own catering and event team to assist couples with everything from menus and tabletop design to wedding-day details.

And Then It’s Time to Dance!

A beautiful venue creates the setting, but once dinner is finished, it’s time for the celebration to really get going.

As wedding DJs, we love working in spaces that allow the different parts of the evening to flow naturally from cocktails and dinner into dancing.

Every reception is different, which is why our DJs don’t simply arrive with a predetermined playlist. We pay attention to the couple, their guests and what’s happening on the dance floor throughout the night.

Sometimes that means knowing when to play the song that gets everyone out of their chairs. Sometimes it’s recognizing when a packed dance floor is telling you not to change direction. And sometimes it’s knowing exactly when to slow things down before building the energy right back up again.

Our goal is simple: create a celebration that feels like you and keep your guests having a great time.
